A Guide On Using A Pubic Rami Fracture Compensation Calculator
A pubic rami fracture is a type of pelvic ring fracture. A lot of weight and pressure is put on the pelvis when sitting and walking, which is why you can experience difficulty moving after suffering one of these injuries.
There are many ways you could suffer this injury, from repetitive stress fractures to a criminal assault. If the incident wasn’t your fault, you’re more than within your rights to see if you can claim.
Our compensation payout calculator can give you a reliable compensation estimate in minutes. All the information we need is:
- The type of injury
- How the injury occurred
- Financial losses suffered from the injury if any.

What Is A Pubic Rami Fracture?
To explain what a pubic rami fracture is, we will explain the different parts of the pelvis so you can better understand how it functions. Other parts of the pelvis include the:
- Sacrum – A shield-shaped bone structure.
- Coccyx – The triangular bone at the base of the spine.
- Ilium – Broad bone which forms the upper half of each side of the pelvis.
- Ischium – Forms the back and lower part of the hip.
- Acetabulum – Socket of the hip bone where the femur head fits.
Together with the pubic rami, they form the pelvic ring, protecting things like your bladder and sexual organs. Pubic rami is the plural of the pubic ramus. This is significant when discussing the two different parts of the pubic rami.
A superior pubic ramus fracture is one caused to the upper part of the rami. It forms the upper edge of the obturator foramen, which is the large opening of the pelvis where nerves and blood vessels pass through. Meanwhile, an inferior pubic ramus fracture is a break to the part of the pelvis that is flat and thin below the obturator foramen. These injuries can lead to an unstable fracture as they can make it difficult for the spine to carry and distribute weight.
This explains “What is your pubic ramus?” and “What is a fractured pubic rami?” You may also have questions such as “How do you treat a pubic rami fracture?” and “How long does a pubic rami fracture take to heal?” These will be answered in the next section.
Symptoms and Treatment for a Pubic Rami Fracture
Symptoms of a broken pelvis include:
- A snapping or cracking noise upon the injury occurring
- Intense pain
- Potentially finding it difficult to walk.
Regarding treatment for a pubic rami fracture, surgery will not be required for a standard case, according to NHS guidance. Groin and leg pain will be experienced, and you will be provided with pain medication when required. You will have access to a physiotherapist who will provide instructions regarding exercises. You will usually be able to walk, but you may initially require a walking aid to help with this. The injury will usually heal within 6 to 8 weeks. Walking is encouraged to help with this as it improves blood circulation.
Injuries causing a broken pelvic ring can be more complex, depending on the severity of the injury. As such, recovery could take longer depending on if you’ve suffered multiple fractures, for example. Always check with your doctor regarding your treatment and recovery plan. If you have any questions or queries about the claims process, please call our advisors for free legal advice using the phone number at the top of this page.
Accidents Causing Pubic Rami Fractures
Making a successful personal injury claim revolves around proving that your injury was caused by third-party negligence. Negligence is proven by showing that the third party in question had a duty of care to you that was breached.
This section will highlight different negligence scenarios to provide examples of incidents where you may be able to claim. As such, this section also answers questions like “How do you get a pubic ramus fracture?”
Collisions In A Motor Vehicle
Every UK road user has a duty of care to one another, as exhibited in the Highway Code. The Code outlines every road user’s responsibilities, showing them the correct conduct when using the road. Due to this, it also establishes negligent driving or conduct as anything that has not been established within this duty of care. As such, if you’ve suffered an injury in a car accident that wasn’t your fault, you may be able to claim due to someone else’s negligence. Examples of this include:
- Another driver speeding through a red light. This could cause a road traffic accident, resulting in you suffering a pelvic ring fracture.
- A drunk driver or a driver who is under the influence of drugs turns into your lane on the motorway without indicating. This could result in a multi-car pile-up, and, as such, you may want to use a pubic rami compensation calculator.
- A car turning into the road at the incorrect moment, causing a side collision. This could lead to severe pelvic damage to areas such as your sacrum, coccyx and ilium.
Collisions On A Motorbike
The number of accidents on the road every year is not just due to the number of vehicles, but the varying types. Despite the protective equipment you can wear, you can still be very vulnerable on a motorbike. If negligence by a car driver caused your injury, you could still claim regardless of whatever vehicle you’re driving. Examples of negligence include:
- A car driver not checking their mirrors, causing them to swerve into you as they were turning. This could damage your pelvic ring as well as your ischium and acetabulum.
- Suffering a broken pelvic ring due to a car crashing into your motorbike on a roundabout because they turned at the wrong time.
- A multi-vehicle pile-up happening due to a driver overtaking at the wrong moment. This could cause you several injuries, including a broken leg and broken ankle.
One thing to consider when making a road traffic accident claim: if your injuries come to less than £5,000, you will have to claim through a different method. This is outlined in The Whiplash Injury Regulations 2021. However, before you claim through this, please give our advisors a call for free legal advice using the phone number above. Your injuries may be worth more than you think!
Repetitive Stress Fractures
Repetitive stress fractures, often referred to as a stress fracture, are caused by repetitive force and brought on by overuse. They can happen in many different areas of your body, such as your wrist, ankle, foot and hip. They can be difficult to detect initially because they can occur gradually over a prolonged period. You may be able to make a successful claim if they’re caused due to work equipment.
This is because your employer has a duty of care to all of their employees while they’re working, as highlighted in The Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974. Basically, the employer needs to make sure that the work environment is safe and secure enough for you to be able to do your job. If it isn’t and you injure yourself due to it, you could claim.
An example of how you could suffer a stress fracture from an injury at work includes using machinery, such as a drill, over a prolonged period of time. This can be damaging due to the tiny vibrations that could fracture the bone. Another instance might involve repeated heavy lifting for the duration of a shift, with few breaks and no job rotation.
Accidents Causing Crush Injuries
In manual handling roles, you could suffer crush injuries, partly due to the machinery involved. Employer negligence can, in some instances, include being forced to use machines that don’t work correctly. Examples of negligence resulting in crush injuries include:
- A conveyor belt malfunction, resulting in objects, such as engine parts, falling on you. This could cause an unstable fracture due to the accident at work.
- High-impact injuries caused by slabs of tiles falling on you while working at a construction site. This could result in you using a pubic rami compensation calculator.
- Fixing a malfunctioning machine but, due to its malfunction, you could get injured as a result. This could cause you to suffer a scar injury.
Falls From Heights
Controllers of public space also have a duty of care to every member of the public that uses their facilities. This is highlighted in the Occupiers’ Liability Act 1957. Basically, within reason, the public needs to be able to use the space for its intended purpose safely and securely. As such, if you’ve injured yourself due to the controller not providing a safe enough environment, you could potentially claim due to negligence. Examples of such negligence include:
- Falling downstairs due to a faulty handrail. This could lead to you using a pubic rami compensation calculator.
- Suffering a pubic rami fracture due to slipping down a ramp because of a wet floor with no warning signs.
- Tripping over exposed wiring could cause damage to your pelvic ring if you fall.
Pubic Rami Fracture – Evidence Examples
To support a personal injury claim such as one for a pubic ramus fracture, you will need to collect sufficient and relevant evidence. The evidence you may need to collect could depend on the type of accident that caused your pubic rami fracture.
The types of evidence you could aim to get may include the following:
- Witness contact information and statements
- Any footage of the accident available, such as CCTV or dashcam footage
- Medical reports
- An accident report form if your fracture occurred while at work
- Photographs showing the accident scene and injury symptoms
If you hire a solicitor to support your claim, then they should be able to assist you with gathering evidence that can strengthen your claim. The evidence provided could also potentially influence the pelvis injury claim amount you receive in a successful claim.
You can contact our advisors online or on the phone if you would like to discuss the process of gathering evidence for a pubic rami fracture claim.

There are two potential heads of claim when making a personal injury claim for any kind of injury, whether it be for a pelvic fracture or a broken arm. General damages relate to the physical and psychological pain and the decline in your quality of life caused by the injury. Special damages, meanwhile, relate to the financial losses caused by the injury.
Below is a list of injuries and their respective compensation brackets for general damages. The Judicial College provided these figures.
Area of Injury Amount of Compensation Description
Leg £39,200 to £54,830 Serious comminuted or compound fractures or ligament injuries and joints causing prolonged treatment and instability.
Leg £27,760 to £39,200 Injuries in this bracket include multiple or complicated fractures or significant single limb crushing injuries.
Leg £17,960 to £27,760 Fractures that result in an incomplete recovery.
Leg Up to £11,840 Simple fractures to fibula or tibia with no further complications or permanent symptoms.

Pelvis and Hips £61,910 to £78,400 Injuries in this bracket include pelvic fracture dislocation involving both pubic and ischial rami. This often results in impotence.
Pelvis and Hips £39,170 to £52,500 An acetabulum fracture causing degenerative changes and leg instability fall into this bracket.
Pelvis and Hips £12,590 to £26,590 Cases in this bracket injuries that require surgery such as hip replacements.
Knee £52,120 to £69,730 Leg fracture extending to the knee joint. This causes symptoms such as constant and severe pain, limiting mobility.
Knee £26,190 to £43,460 Less severe injuries than the bracket above. Can still cause significant and continuing pain, potential deformity and instability.
Under special damages, you could potentially claim for:
- Loss of earnings
- Loss of future earnings
- Travel expenses
- Medical and care costs
- Adaptions to the home
One thing to bear in mind with personal injury claims: if you receive general damages compensation, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you’ll receive any special damages. This is because both are calculated independently based on the evidence provided. To get a reliable compensation estimate, use our pubic rami compensation calculator today.
Pubic Rami Fracture – Claim Time Limits
The time limit to start a claim for your pubic ramus injury can be determined by both the circumstances of your injury and your personal circumstances.
As per the Limitations Act 1980, the general time limit to start a claim for negligence is 3 years from the date of the accident or cause of injury.
However, the time limit is different for people who were injured as minors and people who lack the mental capacity to start a claim. If the claimant is under the age of 18, their claim would not face a time limit. A claim for their pubic rami fracture injury could be started at any point by an appointed litigation friend as a minor cannot represent themselves in a claim. The three year time limit to start a claim on their own behalf will begin from the date they turn 18. They must start a claim before their 21st birthday.
A claim for a person who is mentally unable to represent themselves does not face a time limit unless the person in question is deemed mentally capable of representing themselves. If this happens, they will have three years from this date. Otherwise, a litigation friend can start a claim at any point.
