By Stephen Taylor. Last Updated 21st February 2024. In this guide, we will look at how a slip and fall compensation calculator can help you understand how much you may be owed following a successful personal injury claim.
Slip and fall accidents can happen in a range of environments, such as at work or in a public place. However, to be eligible to claim, your accident must have happened due to someone breaching a duty of care owed to you. You also must be able to prove that you sustained physical or psychological harm. If you’re unsure whether you’re eligible to seek personal injury compensation, this guide could help by providing examples of slip and fall accidents caused by someone else’s negligence.
Slips and falls can result in injuries of varying severity; the severity of the injuries you sustain will be taken into consideration when assessing how much compensation you’re owed. Other factors will also be considered. We will discuss these in more detail throughout our guide.
This guide will also provide you with information about the benefits of choosing a No Win No Fee lawyer.

Slip And Fall Compensation Calculator
Please be aware that the amount of compensation awarded for each claim can differ due to the individual details of the case. As such, it’s difficult to provide an average compensation for a slip and fall injury.
However, there are two separate categories of compensation that you could receive, special damages and general damages.
General damages is the head of claim that seeks to compensate for the pain and suffering you have experienced as a result of your injuries. It takes into account the impact of both physical and psychological injuries.
The table below contains a list of bracket compensation amounts corresponding to different types of injuries. We have used the Judicial College Guidelines (JCG), published in April 2022, to create the table. Personal injury solicitors also use this text to help them when valuing the general damages head of claim. Take note that the first entry in this table is not based on the JCG.
Injury | Details | Amount of Compensation |
---|---|---|
Multiple Serious Injuries Plus Special Damages | If you are claiming for a slip and fall accident that has caused numerous serious injuries, then you may receive a payout that covers all injuries plus relevant special damages you can claim, such as loss of earnings. | Up to £250,000+ |
Moderate Brain Damage (c) (iii) | Memory and concentration are negatively affected, lowering the ability to work. Dependence on others is limited. | £43,060 to £90,720 |
Severe Ankle Injury (b) | This leads to long and extensive treatment and will result in a significant disability, such as limiting the ability to walk. | £31,310 to £50,060 |
Moderate Ankle Injury (c) | Tears to ligaments and fractures of the ankle. This will result in less serious disabilities, for example, an inability to walk for a long period of time. | £13,740 to £26,590 |
Moderate Knee Injury (b) (i) | Dislocation and torn cartilage or meniscus, which leads to a mild future disability, such as weakness of the knee. | £14,840 to £26,190 |
Serious Shoulder Injury (b) | Dislocated shoulder and injury of the brachial plexus resulting in shoulder, neck and elbow pain. | £12,770 to £19,200 |
Moderate Shoulder Injury (c) | Frozen shoulder and soft tissue injuries resulting in symptoms, such as limited movement, which will persist for around two years. | £7,890 to £12,770 |
Modest Foot Injury (g) | Includes simple fractures and ligament damage that lead to mild continuing symptoms. | Up to £13,740 |
Minor Achilles Tendon Injury (d) | Caused by a turn of the ankle which damages the tendon. The ankle will feel like it won't support much weight. | £7,270 to £12,590 |
Wrist Injury (d) | A fracture or soft tissue injury, where recovery takes over 12 months. | £6,080 to £10,350 |
Secondly, you may be able to claim compensation for special damages. Under this head of claim, you can recover past and future financial costs caused by your injury. For example, if you need surgery for a pelvic fracture and therefore have to pay for childcare whilst at the hospital, you might be eligible to claim this expense back.
If you’re wondering ‘how much compensation for a fall injury would I get?’ you can use our slip and fall calculator as an alternative to the table above. It can provide a rough estimate of how much you could be owed. You could also call our team to discuss what your settlement may comprise.
What Is The Definition Of A Slip And Fall?
A slip and fall can occur when someone slips or falls over as a result of a hazard. In some cases, they might also sustain an injury.
A slip and fall accident could lead to many different injuries. Some examples of injuries caused by a slip, trip and fall might include:
- Wrist fractures
- Ankle sprains and fractures
- Dislocated knees
- A shoulder injury
- Damage to fingers
If you have sustained any of these injuries or another type of harm due to someone breaching the duty of care they owed you, you may be able to launch a personal injury claim.
You can use our slip and fall compensation calculator to find out how much you’re owed.
Examples Of Slip And Fall Accidents
There are various places you could suffer from a slip and fall accident caused by someone else’s negligence. For example, at work or in a public place.
Under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 employers owe their employees a duty of care. They must take reasonable steps to keep their workers safe from harm by doing things such as:
- Providing proper training
- Keeping work environments free from hazards
- Practising regular maintenance by carrying out regular risk assessments
- Providing necessary personal protection equipment (PPE)
Additionally, under the Occupiers’ Liability Act 1957, the person in control of a public space owes a duty of care to take reasonable steps to prevent you from experiencing harm while visiting the premises. As such, they are also required to take measures to reduce or remove the risk any hazards pose, such as regular cleaning and maintenance, marking hazards with signage, and making repairs within a reasonable amount of time.
A breach of duty of care is negligence that could result in an employee getting injured in a slip or fall accident. Examples of this might include:
- An employee may have slipped on a puddle of water that has accumulated from a hole in the roof of your place of work. Your employer may have been aware of the leak but failed to take any action to address the hazard. As a result, they may have sustained an ankle injury.
- The manager of a supermarket may have failed to ensure a spill was cleaned up or properly signposted. As a result, you may have slipped on the spill causing you to sustain a broken arm.
If you have been injured due to the negligence of someone else, use our slip and fall compensation calculator to find out how much compensation you could receive.

Connect With No Win No Fee Solicitors For Slip And Fall Claims
If you speak to our advisors about your potential slip and fall accident claim, they could review it and determine if you have a valid case. If they find you do, they may then put you in touch with a No Win No Fee solicitor from our panel.
Our panel of solicitors can support personal injury cases under a Conditional Fee Agreement (CFA). When claiming under such an agreement, you won’t have to pay your solicitor for their work before the claim begins or while it is underway. You also usually don’t need to pay for your solicitor’s services if the claim fails.
If your claim is successful, then your solicitor will take a success fee to cover their payment. This means they’ll take a small and legally capped percentage of the compensation awarded to you.
